Trees Across America Project

The College of Mass Communication and Media Arts and WSIU Public Broadcasting have initiated a new partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale to conduct an ecology outreach project, "Trees Across America." This project will be a model of collaboration on ecology and media literacy that Boys & Girls Club members ages 6-12 can share with other Boys & Girls Clubs and public broadcasting agencies around the United States. Participants will learn about the abundant natural resources of Southern Illinois and share their experience through audio, visual and web productions of their own. Young people will visit the New Media Center in preparation for the creation of a videotaped "virtual hike" in the forests of Southern Illinois. The project is funded in part by a grant from the National Center for Outreach for the PBS KIDS GO! campaign.
